'In Almere is alles nieuw; daar is geen replica uit de Gouden Eeuw te vinden. Het heeft zijn korte geschiedenis, die meer is dan charme, en wie er goed kijkt zal het geen moeite kosten te zien dat de nieuwe stad en het nieuwe land ook mooi zijn, weergaloos.'

'Everything in Almere is new; there are no replica's from the Golden Age to be found here. It has a short history which is more than charm , and for those who observe carefully it will not be difficult to see that the new town and new land have an unparalleled beauty of their own.'

Soestdijk Palace

Backside of the palace
Soestdijk palace is a former residence of the Dutch royal family.
It has a long history that goes back to 1650.
After the death of Queen Juliana and Prince Bernard in 2004, the Palace remained empty and since 2006 it is open to the public.
The future is still unknown.
I was there yesterday to see the exposition of
M.C. Escher (1898-1972); a Dutch graphic artist.

He is known for his often mathematically inspired woodcuts, lithographs and mezzotints. Many of Escher's works employed
repeated tillings called tessellations.
Unfortunately it was forbidden to take pictures in the Palace.
It was a very interesting exposition and funny that you could walk in the palace and see the rooms the royal family lived.
It is not a exactly a beautiful palace. The garden,
however, is certainly worthwhile.

The garden is created in 1915 by Leonard Springer
